Rolling Hills Recovery Center Partial Care Program

Rolling Hills Recovery Center defines Partial Care as group therapy attendance of 5 hours a day, six days a week, and a minimum of weekly individual sessions. We conceptualize substance use disorders as a family disease. We will provide family counseling a minimum of two times per month based on the agreement of the client and family member (s). Clients will be assessed using a biopsychosocial instrument, NJSAMS, and the dimensions of the ASAM, PPC-II, to establish the appropriate level of care.

This will be accomplished with the client’s self-report and collateral data leading to a comprehensive picture of client needs. Within treatment, the clients coping skills will be identified, the client will be determined regarding concepts of substance use disorders, their stage of readiness will be established, Post- Acute Withdrawal issues will be identified and treated.

Understanding PHP Treatment

What Exactly is Partial Hospitalization?

A more significant number of mental health provider visits and 12-step attendance in PHPs leads to abstinence at follow-up on alcohol treatment.

PHP is individual-based, customized, and tailored treatments with various therapeutic methods to achieve and maintain patient sobriety; these programs also form part of outpatient treatment. No single program looks the same for two patients though they may attend inpatient or outpatient programs. When it comes to alcohol and drug addiction, doctors usually diagnose a patient individually. The doctor might be forced to recommend PHP to treat the habit in some cases.

How Partial Hospitalization Works

At other times, PHPs are considered day programs and offer almost anything a patient might find in most outpatient programs. When most outpatient programs require the patient to spend at least 10-12 hours per week, PHPs require 30 hours per week. The patient will have to attend PHP for up to 5 days a week, from four to six hours a day, to reach 30 hours weekly.

PHP involves:

  • One-on-one therapy sessions.

  • Group counseling.

  • Access to a team of nutrition specialists and medical doctors.

While you can attend a PHP as your initial phase of recovery, PHPs are usually step-down programs designed for patients who have completed inpatient rehab. Regularly, a patient gets out of rehab after an initial detox; the patient then goes to inpatient rehab for months before transitioning to either a PHP or outpatient treatment.

But again, remember that the stages of recovery look different from one patient to another, and there is no standardized approach for achieving and maintaining sobriety. When going to the clinic, the doctor initiates a treatment plan according to your needs and life circumstances, usually bringing out the best results; because they are tailored to meet your needs.

A Partial Hospitalization Program is the most intensive addiction treatment level available at an inpatient or residential treatment facility. While treatment and therapy vary from one patient to the other, expect the five stages as explained for everyone in the program:

PHP offers the following services:

  • Behavioral therapies.

  • Case management.

  • Relapse prevention.

  • Holistic therapies.

  • Fitness and nutrition.

  • Medication management.

  • Vocational skill groups.

  • Support groups.

  • Aftercare planning.

Stages of Partial Hospitalization:

Evaluation

During the first stage, evaluation, the patient undergoes a series of interviews, medical examinations, and urine tests. From these results, a doctor can provide the foundation for creating a treatment plan suited for your needs.

Detoxification

Detox follows after evaluation and entails helping the body adjust to functioning better without relying on drugs or alcohol. Detoxification has proved challenging because most patients succumb to worsened withdrawal symptoms that might take some time to overcome. Medical care and monitoring are an integral part of the detox stage.

Psychological & Medical Treatment

Doctors administer therapy and other medical treatment once your body has adjusted to a no-reliance on drugs zone. Treatment usually focuses on learning new skills and techniques to prevent relapse, discover valuable resources, and build a support network community. These support networks aim to help each other live healthy and sober lives during treatment and may progress long after treatment is over.

Transition

The intensity of treatments is scaled-down once patients understand the knowledge and established tools. The number of days continues to reduce as the patients focus on transitioning into a sober life.

Maintenance

Aftercare forms a vital part of a PHP and helps with inconsistent maintenance, continuous skill-building, and practicing and offering care and support throughout a person’s sobriety.

Who Should Enroll in a Partial Day Program?

Good candidates for PHP require less intensive treatment protocols than one offered at an inpatient treatment and need more supervision that is not available in an outpatient program. Also, patients who need intense management but cannot stay at an onsite rehab center are potential PHP candidates. Women with children or caring for elderly relatives or loved ones may find it hard to attend an inpatient program. Hence, they benefit from a PHP, whereas the children and elderly are put under a part-time caregiver.

People with demanding jobs that can’t spare lots of time for inpatient programs are also advised to enroll in a PHP since they can still maintain their work schedule in addiction treatment. However, certain factors might influence whether or not a patient benefits from a PHP, such as:

Preparing for Treatment

How Long Does PHP Last?

Generally, PHP has no set duration for how long a program might last and entirely depends on the patient. The schedule is flexible, with patients free to attend up to three or five days a week when they choose to do so. Sessions can range from four to six hours, with the program lasting a couple of weeks to a few months before the patient transitions into a less intensive outpatient program.

During PHP, patients go through detox and take medications to eliminate drug cravings or other withdrawal symptoms. The withdrawal timeline varies from patient to patient depending on age, addiction severity, metabolic rate, and overall physical and mental health. After detox, patients access a team of doctors and therapists who address and alleviate anxiety, depression, and substance abuse symptoms.

How Can RHRC Help You Recover

PHP vs. Inpatient (Residential) Programs

PHP is a form of outpatient treatment that caters to the needs of more severely addicted patients to drugs and alcohol who can’t attend inpatient rehab. The outpatient treatment rehab is less disruptive to the patient’s everyday life than an inpatient treatment program.

Though many patients with severe addiction can’t attend inpatient rehab, which is effective and suitable for their conditions, people with caregiving tendencies and responsibilities are less likely to participate in an inpatient treatment program, however appropriate and effective the treatment might be. PHP is suitable under such circumstances; it gives its patients a higher level of care than standard outpatient rehabilitation.

Moreso, a patient in PHP, has access to a comprehensive treatment service that includes medical monitoring during the day and does not need to stay overnight in the facility; an ideal option for mothers who have to take care of their kids or people with demanding jobs.

On the other hand, inpatient and residential treatment programs involve conducting 100% of the program at the facility. For the duration of the program, patients eat, sleep and undergo treatment in the residency, whether the course is 30, 60, or 90 days.

The Bottom Line

If you or your loved one is struggling with addiction, rehab and therapy will help maintain and achieve sobriety no matter how severe the addiction is. All you need to do is take the necessary steps, believe in yourself, and talk to a loved one.

Don’t choose to be alone during these depressing times; enroll in a therapy program and form a support team to help you through. Regardless of your circumstances, your doctor can tailor your treatment plan to best suit your needs; your recovery journey is a few decisions away.
