Drugs and alcohol negatively affect our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. There is scientifically based evidence that music can positively affect the mind, body, and soul. Music therapy could be a significant factor in addiction recovery treatment because music changes our mood, ability to express ourselves, and communication skills.
Music therapy can also help individuals struggling with drugs and alcohol cope with their circumstances better by putting them in a calm mood. When we are relaxed and focused, we can come up with solutions and think things through more carefully and clearly.
Endorphins are released in a person’s brain when listening to or playing a piece of music they enjoy. Drugs and alcohol also release endorphins in the brain. Although drug use can temporarily stimulate the brain the same way music can, drugs are damaging long term, and there isn’t any lasting damage with music.

At Rolling Hills Recovery Center, we believe music therapy for addiction treatment is usually never a stand-alone technique. Music therapy almost always includes a comprehensive recovery plan based on the individual circumstance of the person receiving help.

Music therapy for treatment can be given in several ways. In some programs, the client may learn how to play an instrument. In other facilities, the client may learn how to sing a particular song with meaningful lyrics or several pieces. Still, other establishments may focus on listening to the sound of music, and others may turn their attention to listening to the words of the songs.
There are several ways music therapy can work for you.
Our clinical and medical teams review your personal history and circumstances in order to determine the best treatment plan based on your needs.
During intake you will be asked some more questions about your background & medical history. This allows us to fully formulate your treatment plan.
One of our caring team members will take you around the clinical facilities and introduce you to the rest of our team and current community.
We know that the first day of treatment can be overwhelming for anyone. We work with you to ensure you ease yourself into the treatment process.
Music is healing in so many ways. You may find yourself in challenging situations like addiction, pain, or mental illness. Music has always been the universal language of love, joy, peace, and healing. When you participate in music therapy, you are participating in something that has helped many since the beginning of time. Music is a powerful gift to the world. It has always been with us, and it always will be.
